submissions

PLEASE NOTE: GUMBOOT BOOKS IS NOW CLOSED TO ALL UNSOLICITED SUBMISSIONS, IN ALL MANUSCRIPT CATEGORIES.

While we are flattered by all the people who think we would be the perfect home for their manuscript, we are spending all our time trying to keep up with responding to submissions and are not able to spend enough time actually making new books.  Also, this will allow us to respond to the people we do ask to send manuscripts in a timely fashion (which has been impossible lately).

What does this mean for you?

If you already submitted a manuscript: ANY MANUSCRIPTS ALREADY SUBMITTED (and received in the mail by November 15th, 2009) WILL STILL BE CONSIDERED.  ALL ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPTS WILL BE RESPONDED TO BY DECEMBER 1, 2009.  If you have not heard from us by December 1st, then unfortunately your manuscript was not a perfect fit for us at this time.  Please feel free to submit your work elsewhere, and we wish you all the best of luck in your publishing journeys!

If we met you at a conference, a community event or through someone we work with and we personally invited you to send us your manuscript, then please do. We gave you instructions during that conversation, so just follow them.  Your invitation to submit from a conference does not expire, so if it takes you 6 months to polish your manuscript, that’s just fine. MAKE SURE YOU PUT REQUESTED MATERIAL ON THE ENVELOPE OR WE WILL NOT OPEN IT! (and yes, we have a list of who we requested material from… so please don’t do this unless we really did ask you to send us something)

If you are an illustrator:

Please feel free to send us an email with a bit about you, and a link to your online portfolio and we will be happy to review your work and keep you in mind for our upcoming projects.  artsubmissions@gumbootbooks.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. OTHERWISE: we recommend that ANY WRITERS who would like to work with our company sign up for our newsletter, and we will periodically be posting calls for specific submissions through our newsletter and posting them on our website as well.  Hint: we’ll be re-opening the World of Stories 2 contest as we have a few unfilled holidays, and that’s a great way to get in the door, and potentially work with us on a project, which then puts your work into the “solicited” category in the future ; )
