If you need something to help bring a little chill to your hot, summer days, try out the cool mystery found in the pages of The Midnight-Blue Marble.
It’s that time again! A few weeks ago we announced that Gumboot will be giving away a book each month to help our growing community collect some of the excellent resources we have to offer. This time around, one lucky person will win a free copy of The Midnight-Blue Marble. With this great young adult whodunit as the prize, it’s not inaccurate to call this amazing opportunity a steal!
Since the private letters of Marie Antoinette figure in the plot of this month’s giveaway book, we want to know if you ever had a pen pal and, if so, what you got out of that experience. Leave your answers in the comment section of this post to enter the contest before 11:59pm (Pacific Time) on Sunday, July 25th. One reader will be chosen at random so check back on Monday, July 26th to see if you are the winner. If you are you can then send us your mailing address to receive your prize! Please note that this contest is only open to those with a Canadian or United States shipping address. Best of luck, everyone!

I never had a pen-pal from some far away country, but I used to exchange letters with my cousin a lot. Her’s were always so funny and just a pleasure to read. I hope I didn’t bore her to death with mine!
As a young person who loved to write and to read, and as a person who was fascinated with other places, I had a number of pen pals over the years. One of my longest lasting pen pals was someone I was matched with on the Girl Guide International post box project. Her name was Kirsi, and she lived in Finland. We had been writing each other for 5 years, when I found out I was going to be a Rotary Exchange student in Finland! I stayed with her family for a week while I lived there after one of the most adventurous travel journeys I’d ever had (hmm- that story should probably become a blog entry!) We are still pen pals, almost 35 years later, but we don’t write as often any more.
This contest is now closed and the winner is Angie! Thanks to you both for entering. I loved reading about your experiences as pen pals!
